Zeca Diabo kills the mayor. Odorico and Vladimir vie for the mayoralty. Odorico is elected, and Vladimir tries to undermine his term. Neco falls in love.

Violeta tells Odorico she is in love with Neco. Violeta argues with Neco over her father and leaves. Dulcinéia marries Dirceu.

Odorico brings a sick person to town in an attempt to inaugurate the cemetery. Zeca Diabo returns to town. Vladimir calls for a strike and a protest march against Odorico.

Ernesto dies. Vladimir accepts a bribe from Odorico. Dirceu discovers his wife's infidelity and commits a crime. The people turn against Odorico, who falls into despair.
